The Medicaid patients included in the map vary in age and include both children and adults. Therefore, the numbers are an underestimate of estimated number of smokers on Medicaid throughout the nation.
The source of the data comes from a Medicaid database located at the Centergy One building at the Institute for People and Technology (IPAT) at Georgia Tech. The database has information on Medicaid patients from the years 2005 to 2012 and the map below shows data from the year 2012.
