Keeping Momentum for National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2025

by Amanda Reddy

UPDATE (OCTOBER 20): FEDERAL MATERIALS FOR NATIONAL LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK WERE RELEASED TODAY. ACCESS THEM HERE

Each October, organizations across the country and around the world come together to raise awareness about the dangers of lead exposure and the importance of prevention. National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is just a few weeks away (October 19–25, 2025).

For the last several years, our federal government and the World Health Organization (WHO) have released annual themes and materials to help partners coordinate messages. Unfortunately, due to the government shutdown, this year’s federal materials have not yet been released, and advocates are asking how they can begin planning outreach activities.

We know how important it is for communities to have time to plan their events, social media, and educational campaigns.
To help the field keep moving forward, we’re sharing the WHO’s theme, “No Safe Level: Act Now to End Lead Exposure.”
This theme captures the shared global message that every exposure matters and that every action counts, whether through policy, prevention, or education. It’s also consistent with last year’s U.S. theme, and using it will help maintain alignment if the federal agencies ultimately release similar materials.

Our goal is not to create a competing campaign or cause confusion. If and when the federal government releases its official materials, we’ll gladly help amplify them. For now, we encourage everyone who wants to get started to use this theme as a foundation so that we can work together to keep attention focused on the urgent and solvable issue of lead exposure.

As a convenience, we’ve collected some of the best graphics for social media and added them to our National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week page, and we expect to add more resources to it over the next few days. You can use these customizable graphics and sample posts for your own channels. As always, we recommend including the #NLPPW25, #NLPPW2025, and #LeadFreeKids hashtags on your posts, but you may also want to consider going global with #ILPPW2025. Additional useful hashtags include #LeadFreeFuture, #EndLeadExposure, #LeadPoisoningPreventionWeek, and #NoSafeLevel.

Finally, feel free to tag NCHH on your posts: We’ll be sharing and amplifying community efforts throughout the month of October and especially during Lead Poisoning Prevention Week.

Remember, whether you’re planning an event, sharing a resource, or simply raising your voice online, your efforts matter. Together, we can ensure that every child grows up in a lead-free environment and that awareness leads to action.
