Project Description: Currently, six million families in the United States live in substandard housing. Recognizing the deleterious effects such housing has on children’s health and family stability, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and community groups are coming together to develop and deliver housing-based health solutions.

Several presentations were given at a national symposium hosted by the Enterprise Foundation and NCHH to develop a public policy agenda for advancing healthier homes for low-income families. The symposium, Healthier Homes, Stronger Families: Public Policy Approaches to Healthy Housing, occurred on June 2, 2004, in downtown Washington, DC, and was funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. A follow-up report, entitled Healthy Housing, Healthy Families: Toward a National Agenda for Affordable Healthy Homes, was issued later that year.
