COLUMBIA, MD (December 21, 2023) — The National Center for Healthy Housing will support Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International as an “Environmental Justice Thriving Communities” national and regional grantmaker.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the full list of grantmakers on Wednesday. The 12 awards, totaling $600 million, are made possible by the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate action investment ever. Visit EPA’s project summaries for a full list of the grantmakers and their partnering organizations.

NCHH will partner with RTI on two of the 12 projects. For the “Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program (EJ TCGM)” (award amount: $50,000,000), an RTI-led team consisting of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), and NCHH will “emphasize local community outreach to accelerate grant awards to communities most in need and warrant that funding enables projects that support the goals and strategies of both EPA’s Strategic Plan and the broader Justice40 Initiative, such as clean and healthy air for all communities, clean and safe water for all communities, and safety of chemicals for people and the environment. This work will cover EPA regions 4, 5, 6, and 7.

NCHH will also support RTI on the “Catalyzing Community-Driven Change (CCDC): EJ TCGM Region 4” project (award amount: $50,000,000) with partners North Carolina Central University NCCU (R4), Resource for Assistance and Community Training—RTI Center for Applied Research in Environmental Science – CARES, Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), and the University of Kentucky (UKY). Using inclusive targeted outreach and recruitment strategies, this team will advance racial equity by positioning community members as decision-makers in selecting subawardees. The team will conduct this work in EPA Region 4.

Congratulations to all the selected grantmakers and the communities that will benefit from this work!
