How Can We Help You?

NCHH recommends these five great tools for local programs.

Tell Your Story and Make an Impact

One of the best ways to help policymakers develop a personal commitment to healthy housing is to share with them testimony of how  substandard housing issues have directly affected their constituents. Our insightful webinar series was originally created to raise awareness about Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, but the tools fit any application. The webinar series includes event planning, media engagement, and sharing your story; it will teach you how to design a compelling campaign to raise awareness about your community.

State of Healthy Housing

About 35 million metropolitan homes in the U.S. have one or more health and safety hazards, conditions that can cause significant illness, injury, and death. We can prevent many accidents through housing regulation, inexpensive repairs, ongoing maintenance, and small behavior changes. The purpose of the State of Healthy Housing ranking is to alert policymakers and advocates to their community’s housing conditions and to provide the basis for additional investment in affordable, healthy housing. See how your city compares and stay tuned for updated rankings in 2018.

Code Enforcement and Regulation Resources

Creating and maintaining healthy, sustainable housing is a collaborative effort. Whether you’re a housing and public health professional, an advocate, or a resident, our comprehensive code enforcement and regulation resource library will help you to improve policies, regulations, and resources that impact housing quality and health.

Code Enforcement and Regulation
Creating and maintaining healthy, sustainable housing is a collaborative effort. Whether you’re a housing and public health professional, an advocate, or a resident, you can work to improve policies, regulations, and resources that impact housing quality and health.

Data
Local-level data combined with complementary federal sources provide the most robust health and housing assessment to drive healthy housing baseline data. From this baseline data, actors in many communities have designed and targeted healthy housing programs and resources, and developed dashboards for measuring progress. The resources below help to address these challenges.

Research
Housing and community conditions have a major impact on health. The research resources provided here are designed to help you find the evidence-based information you need to support health and housing interventions and programs in your community. In addition to these resources, please see NCHH’s extensive Research and Demonstration library.

Standards and Assessments
Below are standards and rating systems that have been developed for healthy housing, followed by several assessment systems designed to help measure how well homes meet the standards.

Healthcare Financing Resource Library

With all of the emerging opportunities to finance healthy homes services through the healthcare system, it can be overwhelming to decide where to start. Our resource library provides an overview of key financing strategies, examples of home-based lead and asthma programs that are currently being financed through nonprofit hospitals and public or private insurance, and links to resources that are available to help state and local agencies or other stakeholders explore options for healthcare financing of healthy homes in their own communities.

Join the National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition

The National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition is a broad, voluntary coalition of over 300 organizations working to improve housing conditions nationwide through education and outreach to key national stakeholders and federal public decision makers. The Coalition promotes policies for safe and healthy housing in the United States, with special emphasis on those who are disproportionately impacted.
